About this Gatlinburg cabin

The cabin sits in Chalet Village, the wooded residential neighborhood that climbs the ridge behind downtown Gatlinburg off Ski Mountain Road. It is quiet, surrounded by trees, and still close enough that dinner on the Parkway is a ten-minute drive down the mountain.

Inside there are two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, and two full bathrooms — four guests in total, with no shared walls and no neighbors through the floor. The main living space has an indoor fireplace and opens onto a deck that looks straight into the trees. Parking is free and on the property, though it sits above the cabin, so there are steps down to the door.

Guests get seasonal access to the Chalet Village community pool at the South Baden Clubhouse, and Ober Mountain is five minutes further up the same road you drive in on. The Sugarlands entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park is about ten minutes away, which puts Laurel Falls, Cataract Falls and the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail all within easy reach of a morning.

It suits couples, two friends traveling together, or a family of four who want the mountain and the trees rather than a cabin in the middle of the strip.

Worth knowing before you book

There are about twenty steps

Parking sits above the cabin, and it is roughly twenty steps down to the door and twenty back up. They can be wet or icy in winter. Use the handrails, and pack with the climb in mind.

No laundry on site

The cabin has no washer or dryer. Well Wishing Coin Laundry at 951 East Parkway is about fifteen minutes away, open 24 hours and takes cards.

A Nest camera watches the exterior

There is one camera outside the cabin. It records video and audio. There are no cameras of any kind inside.

Sound carries between floors

Guests have told us the cabin is not soundproof between levels. Worth knowing if someone in your group is a light sleeper.

Starter supplies, not a full stay

You will find toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, dish soap, dishwasher pods, hand soap and coffee to get you started. Food City on East Parkway is the nearest full grocery. If something runs out early, message us and we will replace it.

This is bear country

Gatlinburg is known for its black bears and they come through Chalet Village. Lock your doors, never leave food in your car, keep trash in the bear-proof container, and check your surroundings before walking outside. A fed bear is a dead bear.

The community pool, explained properly

Chalet Village has more than one clubhouse, and this trips guests up. Your access is the South Baden Clubhouse, 1319 South Baden Drive — a short drive from the cabin, not a walk. The clubhouse is wheelchair accessible.

Bring the white card. It lives in the cabin and you carry it to the clubhouse. Without it you will not get in.

$25 to replace a lost card. Charged to the reservation, so put it back where you found it before checkout.

Closed Tuesdays for maintenance. Publicly listed hours are 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and the pool is seasonal — message us to confirm before you plan a pool day.

What is near the cabin

Drive times are estimates from the cabin in Chalet Village. Downtown Gatlinburg parking is difficult in season — park once and walk.
Place Drive Why go
The All-New Ski Mountain Pizza ~5 min 631 Ski Mountain Road — the nearest food to the cabin by a wide margin, on the same road. Open to 10:00 PM, 11:00 PM weekends, with a small market attached for snacks and drinks.
Ober Mountain ~5 min 1339 Ski Mountain Road. Skiing and snowboarding in winter; alpine slide, chairlift and ice skating year-round. Hours vary by season.
Sugarlands Visitor Center ~10 min The park entrance nearest the cabin. Maps, rangers, restrooms, and where you buy the required parking tag. Cataract Falls is a flat 0.1-mile walk from the back door.
Downtown Gatlinburg ~10 min The Parkway strip — Ripley's Aquarium, Ole Smoky Distillery, restaurants and the aerial tram up to Ober.
Crockett's Breakfast Camp ~10 min 1103 Parkway. The signature Gatlinburg breakfast, 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Join the online waitlist before you leave the cabin — the queue is long.
The Peddler Steakhouse ~8 min 820 River Road. Steaks cut tableside, creekside seating, dinner from 5:00 PM. Reserve ahead and ask for a river-view table.
Food City ~15 min 1219 East Parkway. The full supermarket locals use, 6:00 AM to midnight. Worth stopping on the way in before you head up the mountain.
Laurel Falls Trail ~15 min Paved but uphill and uneven, roughly 35 minutes up to the falls. Doable with kids. Parking fills early — arrive before 9:00 AM.
Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail ~15 min A one-way loop past old homesteads, streams and waterfalls. The good option when the weather is too poor to hike. Closed in winter; no buses, trailers or RVs.
Alum Cave Trail ~30 min The standout hike in the park — creek crossings, Arch Rock and the bluffs. One to one and a half hours up to the cave. Hiking shoes and an early start.

Getting into the national park

Entry to Great Smoky Mountains National Park is free. A Park it Forward parking tag is required for any vehicle parked more than fifteen minutes anywhere in the park — $5 daily, $15 weekly or $40 annual. Tags are sold at Recreation.gov, any visitor center and the automated fee machines, and must match your license plate. An America the Beautiful pass does not cover it. This is the detail guests miss most often.

Common questions about this cabin

How many people does it sleep?

Four. Two bedrooms with a queen bed each, and two full bathrooms. Four is the maximum, and only guests on the reservation are permitted on the property.

Is the pool included?

Yes, seasonally. Access is at the South Baden Clubhouse, 1319 South Baden Drive, a short drive away. You need the white card kept in the cabin, and the clubhouse is closed Tuesdays.

How far is Ober Gatlinburg?

About five minutes, up the same Ski Mountain Road you drive in on. You can also take the aerial tram from downtown and skip parking entirely.

How far is the national park?

Sugarlands Visitor Center is roughly ten minutes. Park entry is free, but a Park it Forward parking tag is required and costs $5 daily, $15 weekly or $40 annually.

Are there stairs?

Yes — about twenty steps down from parking to the door and twenty back up. They can be icy in winter. The cabin is not step-free accessible.

Is there a washer and dryer?

No. Well Wishing Coin Laundry at 951 East Parkway is about fifteen minutes away, open 24 hours and takes cards.

Can I bring my dog?

No, pets are not permitted at this cabin. We do co-host a pet-friendly cabin elsewhere in the area — call and ask.

Is late checkout possible?

Checkout is 10:00 AM and late checkout is not offered. The cleaning window between guests is tight and the next arrival depends on it.

Are there cameras?

One Nest camera outside, which records video and audio. None inside the cabin. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are installed indoors.

Where do I buy groceries?

Food City at 1219 East Parkway is the nearest full supermarket, about fifteen minutes, open 6:00 AM to midnight. Old Dad's General Store downtown handles a forgotten item.

Will I see a bear?

Possibly. Bears move through Chalet Village regularly. Keep food out of your car, trash in the bear-proof container, and doors locked. Never feed them — it is illegal in Gatlinburg and it kills the bear.

When should I visit?

October is peak fall color and books furthest ahead. Winter brings skiing at Ober five minutes away. Summer is when the community pool matters most.
